(4/16/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A pedestrian was struck and killed while he was trying to cross a freeway overnight. It happened around 11:30 last night when the man tried to run across the Gulf Freeway just north of Howard. He made it across the southbound lanes, but a car narrowly missed the man. It was when he was trying to cross the northbound lanes that he was hit by a woman in a sedan who wasn't able to stop in time.
"One vehicle missed him. The vehicle in lane number one wasn't able to avoid him and struck the pedestrian," said Sgt. R.C. Gonzales with the Houston Police Department. "The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian is pretty shaken up."
Traffic in the northbound lane was reduced to two lanes for a few hours but everything has been cleared now. Police have not released the name of the victim in this accident or the driver of the car.
